AW: Final Fantasy XIII / FF13
Tja eine tolle Zeit, Leute sind selbst mit google schon völlig überfordert. (Wie das wohl in der Schule aussieht).
Naja, viele Infos aus der letzten Famitsu:
Page 14
- Top of the page: "The 6th member of the party is finally confirmed, and it is a female by the name of Fang, who is wearing very tribal-themed clothes. How does she become Lightning's comrade?"
- Caption for top photo: "Fang looks on as Snow is taken away by the Sanctum soldiers. From the way she looks, you can tell the resolve that she possesses, and the lack of any form of perplexity. What could be her relationship with the Sanctum?"
- Caption in the blue box beside the bottom photo: "Vanille and Fang share the same surname 'Oerba'. Coupled with their tribal clothes, it is certain that they are different from the rest of the party. Could both of them have something to do with Pulse? Whilst their relationship is not yet certain, we can tell from the photo on the left that Fang is more dominant and a stronger character than Vanille. The grin that Fang has, compared to the perplexed and hesitant look that Vanille has, show that their characters are practically polar opposites."
*Little bit at the very bottom of the page is just about the characters which we already know about.
Page 15
- Caption at the top for the pictures at the top: "Fang is here with Snow whilst he is being captured. He notices that Fang has the mark of a L'Cie on her right shoulder. Why is it that although she's a L'Cie, she is working with the Sanctum? Also, it is clear that her mark is very different from that possessed by Lightning, Snow, etc. Could it be that the Fal'Cie that chose her to be a L'Cie is different from the Fal'Cie that chose the rest of the L'Cies in Lightning's party?"
- The part at the bottom right corner describing Fang's character: "Despite being a L'Cie that is clearly seen as a threat to the people of Cocoon, she is known to be working hand-in-hand with the Sanctum. She has a strong and cool personality, with little care for minute details. On her left shoulder is a tribal-esque tattoo that reminds one of bestial fangs."
*Note: The black box is basically just a description of L'Cies and Fal'cies, which most of us know already. As are the rest of the black boxes, which I won't bother to translate henceforth since the purpose of the black boxes are always to explain aspects of FFXIII to people that know nothing about FFXIII, such as the Sanctum, Pulse and Cocoon, etc.
*Little bit at the very bottom of the page is just about the characters which we already know about.
Page 16
- Topmost paragraph: "Fang here in battle shows her competitive spirit, with brutal attacks that are relentless in dishing out damage. Here we'll look more at Fang in battle."
- Portion in between the two photos: "Fang slices and dices her foes asunder with a spear that is fitted with blades on both ends; creating orange and pink slashing effects while attacking in an almost graceful manner. Even though the spear is practically as long as she is tall, she wields it so easily that one would wonder how she so easily uses it in battle despite its weight. From the way she uses her spear, it is evident that she is comfortably versed in wielding her weapon."
*Black box here just explains what we already know about roles and optimas.
*Little bit at the very bottom of the page is just about roles which we already know about.
Page 17
- Portion at bottom left: "Fang is a very attack-based character, and is very suited to using the 'Attacker' role. Coupled with Lightning whose role is set as 'Blaster' in the above battle screenshot, it is evident that this pairing will be unstoppable as they constantly chock up chains and eventually 'Break' their opponents. Once the enemy enters 'Break' mode, the damage dealt will increase and defeating monsters will be a piece of cake."
- Part next to picture of Fang's weapon: "The weapons used by FFXIII's party members share the common trait of being able to morph into different types, and Fang's weapon is no exception. Here we can see how Fang's spear can somehow bend into 3 sticks like some kind of nunchuks."
*Little bit at the very bottom of the page is just about roles which we already know about.
Page 18
- Topmost paragraph: "Fang's summon is Bahamut, the summon that all FF fans know and love. Here we will explore her summon in its normal state. (i.e. non-Gestahlt mode)"
- Caption for topmost photo: "Both Fang and Bahamut in their battle stances, with Cocoon serving as a backdrop."
- Blue box bit next to the photo: "Here in the photo on the right is a picture of Bahamut just as he responds to Fang's call. Here in his normal state he appears in a humanoid form just as Odin and the Shiva sisters do in their normal states. Whilst he may not be as big a summon as compared to Sazh's summon Brynhildr, he is still considerably large in size. Even though he doesn't seem to have a weapon in hand, unlike Odin who uses his dual-end swords and the Shiva sisters who uses wheels to attack, his large claws more than make up for it, which will surely cause just as much damage. Other than using his claws to attack physically, Bahamut looks as though he can use them to cast magical spells and use various techniques."
*Little bit at the very bottom of the page is just about 'Break' mode.
Page 19
- Part on Bahamut just below his Gestahlt mode render: "Commonly know as the Dragon King Bahamut, it is no surprise that his Gestahlt mode is fittingly a mechanical dragon! He is usually known in the FF series for being one of the strongest summons in-game, capable of scorching enemies with his flames and using his unlimited powers."
- Black box which I'll translate here since it explains more about TP abilities: "If you want to find out more about your enemy, you will have to use up some TP to use the skill Libra. Summoning is also another ability that requires TP. After you summon a summon, the TP gauge disappears, and a Drive gauge appears in its place. This Drive gauge will gradually increase as your summon continually attacks. The more you accumulate in the Drive gauge, the longer you will be able to use your summon in its Gestahlt mode, and the more attacks you can do as well."
*Little bit at the very bottom of the page is just about 'Break' mode.
Page 20
- Topmost paragraph: "Sazh's summon is the brand new and original summon Brynhildr. Whilst it reminds one of the summon Ifrit, it is a completely different summon."
- Blue bit below that: "When Brynhildr is summoned, she appears enveloped in scorching flames, with a build almost twice as large as Sazh himself, and has to be one of the largest summons. The weapon in her arms looks like some kind of axe or hammer. Other than being used for slashing at enemies, it seems to also be able to transform into a gun as can be seen in the bottom image. This summon definitely complements the gun-wielding Sazh."
- Caption for bottom photo: "Acting as Brynhildr's target practice for her gun is the Sanctum's robot creation 'Tsuveruku Street Model' (Not sure? It's basically the blue monster in the foreground?). It is a monster that is used by the Sanctum, doesn't it look quite cute?"
- Little bit at the very bottom of the page: "Once you summon a summon, the summon will take the place of the other two party members. In this case, the summon is not affected by roles and optima changes, and is AI-controlled. On the other hand, the summoner character is still affected by roles and optima, so, for example, if the summoner character is set as the 'Enhancer' role, the character will be able to buff the summon by casting spells such as Haste and Bravery."
Page 21
- Part about Brynhildr: "Her Gestahlt mode is a racing car, and Sazh will jump in and ride the car in battle. We'll explain more about it in Page 22!"
- Blue bit right above Sazh: "In Norse mythology, Brynhildr is actually like a female counterpart to the god Odin. In the game, Brynhildr can be seen to have legs that resemble high heel shoes, and also a feminine silhouette. Apparently, summons are manifestations of the summoner's inner self and personality, so what could this female appearance show about Sazh...?"
Page 22
- Topmost paragraph: "Summons do not only fight alongside you; they can also merge with you in their Gestahlt mode, and that is when their true power is unlocked!"
- Middle bit in between the two photos: "Brynhildr's Gestahlt mode will help Sazh run over all his foes! Other than spinning around on 4 wheels to deal damage to foes, her ability Caltrop Bomb involves shooting out needle-like bombs from her exhaust pipes, as well as Muspell Flame, which involves the use of the sacred flames of the mythical Muspell. (?)"
- Bit next to the small photo inset: "These floating pieces seem to be some kind of extension/additional parts of Brynhildr, which aid Brynhildr in battle by attacking foes from above."
- Black box which I will again translate as it reveals more about the Gestahlt mode: "Summons have a point system called SP (Summon Points?) This SP can be likened to the summons' HP, as it will decrease as the summon receives damage. However, SP also has the special quality of decreasing gradually as the summon battles. If you press the 'Square' button before the summons' 'SP' decreases to 0, you can have your summon enter Gestahlt mode, where the summon and the summoner will merge as one to fight in battle. In Gestahlt mode, you can input specific button combinations to use up "Kosuto" (Cost, which I assume is the number in the dial) to use various abilities. However, there is a time limit, and when your Kosuto reaches 0, your summon will be dismissed."
- Little bit at the very bottom of the page: "It was cleverly discovered by fans long before Fang was officially revealed that there was a spear icon in the weapon inventory, which hinted at the fact that the 6th character would be a spear-wielding member. In addition, each of these weapons in the demo were shown to also have a [Lv.], and this is also hinted by Toriyama that the weapons will also have some kind of growth system."
Page 23
- Blue bit below the topmost image: "Bahamut in his Gestahlt mode transforms into a mechanical dragon, and lets Fang sit on his back as they dish out damage. He uses his claws, fangs, and abilities such as Megaflare to attack all foes."
- Bit next to photo inset: "Bahamut can be seen in the photo to be emitting some kind of a fiery beam from his mouth, which has the added special effect of two ring-like insignias, hinting at the fact that this is a magic-based ability."
- Portion in the box at bottom of page: "How about the other summons and their Gestahlt modes? It has already been revealed and confirmed that Odin transforms into a horse, and the Shiva sisters transform into a motorbike. No matter what it is that they transform into, it is certain that these summons possess the ability to help you turn battles around when the going gets tough. As for Hope and Vanille's summon, it is hinted by Toriyama that they will be revealed soon. For all you know, they may turn out to be very unexpected in appearance?"
*Little bit at the very bottom of the page is just about the history of Bahamut in the FF series.
Page 24
- Topmost paragraph: "The city of commerce Palumpolum was the stage for the TGS'09 Lightning demo, and is a large city in Cocoon. Here we will explore more about it."
- Blue bit below topmost photo: "Palumpolum is one of the largest cities in Cocoon, and is comprised of an industrial district, as well as a maze-like area of dark and narrow alleyways. In the photo above, we can see PSICOM soldiers making their rounds patrolling the city. From the looks of the casual dressing of the pedestrians, it is likely that the climate is warm yet pleasant."
- Blue bit below with te photo inset of Shiva: "It seems that this building is covered in ice; could it be the work of Snow and Shiva?
- Caption for bottommost photo: "Could the people lying in front of the frozen monument be PSICOM soldiers? This is clearly a showing of the immense power that summons possess."
- Little bit at the very bottom of the page: "When towns such as Palumpolum were first revealed, a question that popped up in many people's minds was, "How are the loading times like?". Toriyama reveals that there will only be loading times when one moves in between a town and the wilderness outside (i.e. between locales?). Once you're within a certain locale, there will only be brief transitions (I'm assuming here, because the Japanese term used by Toriyama is 'shi-muresu', which I'm guessing is 'shimmers'?) between areas. Even within a large town like Palumpolum, you can explore the entire town without having to go through any loading times."
Page 25
- Blue bit below topmost image: "These two images here show what Palumpolum looks like, and it seems that its expansive size and low buildings are suitable for aircrafts to take off, cruise, and land. Could the areas featured in the images be some sort of aircraft or train station? What about those floating things hovering above the buildings? Could it be some kind of balloon? Or maybe it has the function of advertising?"
- Caption for the second photo: "On the left side of the photo we can see some kind of escalator-shaped construction, leading to a white-coloured building in the far background, which looks somewhat majestic and significant."
- Caption for bottommost image: "Neon signs line the streets of Palumpolum, with crowds that are casually dressed as they traverse the brightly lit streets. The buildings are all man-made, but the greenery of the roadside trees can also be noticed."
- Little bit at the very bottom of the page: "When there is loading to be done, how long will it take? Toriyama expresses that from the very beginning of production, the team has been working hard at minimizing load times, so they will be as short as possible. Additionally, it is predicted that the loading space/capacity will be 500 KB and above, and the trophies will take up a space of 3080 KB and above. (Not sure about this part on the memory spaces...) Also, there will be no need to install the game onto the hard drive."
Page 26
- Topmost paragraph: "Whilst on the surface Palumpolum looks like a bustling metropolis, deep down it hides something within. What is it that Lightning seeks to uncover?"
- Caption for topmost image: "The area is filled with roadblocks upon roadblocks, with numerous PSICOM soldiers patrolling the area. What could it be that is under such heavy protection?"
- Blue bit on the right of the topmost image: "In the TGS'09 demo, you could use Lightning and Hope to explore this secret area in Palumpolum, where you tried to avoid being seen by the PSICOM soldiers in a bid to reach your destination point. Hope here leads the way; could it be that Hope is well-versed in the area because he is from Palumpolum? Also, you can explore the area seamlessly, without having to worry about troublesome loading times."
*Little bit at the very bottom of the page is just about the TGS'09 trailer being available for watching on the official site.
Page 27
- Blue bit at the top: "Beneath Palumpolum in the underground facility, Lightning and Hope uncover the Fal'Cie. With an orange glow, butterfly-like appearance and two faces... This is indeed the Fal'Cie, the Fal'Cie that ensures Cocoon's stability, provides food for the people of Cocoon, as well as various resources too. As Lightning looks on at the Fal'Cie, she can't help but respond with hesitation."
- Blue bit with the photo inset: "What could these flans and monsters be patrolling?"
- The portion at the bottom of the page: "Although in this feature we focused only on the city of Palumpolum, there are still many more areas in Cocoon that are not yet revealed. Also, Cocoon does not only have modern metropolises, there are also areas which are more natural, such as forested areas and villages. Likewise, these areas all have their own overseeing Fal'Cies, and apparently they govern over even the climate of these areas.
- Captions for the three photos at the bottom of the page introduce other locales: "This green forest that Vanille is exploring is an area whose name is not yet revealed.", "The area featured in the FFVII Advent Children demo is an area at the border of Cocoon called Hanged Edge.", "The area that Lightning and Serah live in is a famous Cocoon tourist destination called Bodam, which is also a seaside town."
*Little bit at the very bottom of the page is just about the Episode Zero Novel which is available on the official site.
Interview
-Fang is not very aware of that she is "mysterious" (Might also mean she's not very aware that she's sexy and aggressive).
-The summons are not really identified by their elements but more of the way or the concept behind the way they fight.
This is followed by the comment on how Bahamut is an "Aerial Something (reipa-).
-Bryhider(sp?) is a very suitable female companion to the Afro-ed Sazh. To complement him, her huge weapon can work as some sort
heavy gun and the way she fires can be quite scary. Even though the Summons into transport motif exists for all summons,
her power will make you wonder whether she really is just a car. They will reveal more about this power of hers later.
-The spinning device with the faces during Lightning's monologue with Hope is a Fal'cie that is in charge of making food.
It regulates the light needed for the produce to grow(underground) and handles the growth process as well.
There are many more such Fal'cies in the game and they have different names so do look for them while playing.
-The crystallisation of Palumpulom is the result of a spetacular entrance by Snow, Shiva and another character.
It is different from the crystallisationat Lake Binge(Sp?).
-Web novel is not just meant for reading before playing the game. It will mean even more if you read it after you complete the game.
Fang's design.
-Nomura added the red hair streaks because he thought that she looked a bit plain in CG. She was supposed to have just black hair.
-She was designed with Toriyama's idea that she should have skin colour that resembles Hispanics. Toriyama also wanted
people to have impressions of an exotic and passionate country. That was why Nomura thought that the black hair is necessary.
-I think this has been mentioned before but Fang's clothing is based on the Indian Sari. Her tattoo and scars are to
emphasise the fact that she's a warrior. She will have conflicts with Lightning throughout the game because they're both
agressive.
-Nomura didn't do the weapons this time but he was part of the group that did the auditions for seiyuus.
Other than to make sure that the voices fit, they also wanted some balance within the cast that they have i.e.
have characters that sound different from each other.
Sazh's Design.
-The initial request was for a bald and suave guy. Nomura decided to use an afro after looking at pictures of African Americans.
-He is now designed to be an air ship pilot but was supposed to be a train driver at first. Nomura looked through various designs
of pilots but most of them wear suits. He wanted Sazh to do combat in a normal jacket and loose, long pants to give
off a different feel. The cap/hat thing that he was supposed to wear was supposed to help him look more like a pilot.
Nomura was trying to find the right balance to let people know that he is a pilot/driver of sorts.
-Sazh wears a smart looking black, exercise singlet underneath his outerwear. Nomura wanted it to be white
but thought that it felt too much like daily life so he changed it to black.
-The logo on his sleeve belongs to the company he works for and was a blank space at first
;they only added the logo after designs were finalised.
-The baby chocobo started as a scribble and the team wanted him
to add it in. The scribble was because Nomura wanted some sort of partner for Sazh.
-Nomura draws his designs on A4 papers details are usually drwan out as well so they(the details) end up being small.
So accessories like Serah's pendant were drawn separately and added later.
The part about Bahamut? He's described as an "Aerial Raver", which is likely linked to the idea of a Blaster/Ravager. 'Aerial' because he actually whisks enemies into the air and attacks repeatedly in a flurry of attacks. And basically Toriyama talked about this because the question posed to him was "Does Bahamut have an assigned element like the rest of the summons?". His answer was that we should not look at the summons having specific elements, but rather at the summons as having different battle styles! Thus, I think it's actually pretty useless to think about how Odin is Lightning-based, Shiva is Ice-based, etc. I do wonder if their attacks are still elemental, though...

AW: Final Fantasy XIII / FF13
