Tokyo Game Show 2009 has begun, so let's kick it off with this image taken from the PSP trailer at Sony's presentation, shall we?

It appears that summoning will be a feature in Birth by Sleep, with the image showing off Ven summoning Stitch in what looks to be Castle of Dreams. The image was taken from the live Sony coverage blog over at Joystiq.

Lissar has begun translating the latest Famitsu article on Birth by Sleep. It goes into more detail about Neverland and Dwarf Woodland. Check it out:

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep SPECIAL!

"A new event in Neverland!"

"The Neverland world has been with the series since the beginning. This time it seems you will be going around activating blue crystals called “star fragments.”

“So we just go around and activate these strange things!?”

Peter Pan - A boy who never ages. He always trys to get his way. He flies with Tink’s fairy dust, and fights with a short sword. It seems that he is trying to find something with his friends?

Tinkerbell - She is from the valley of the fairies in Neverland. She can’t speak, but uses gestures to communicate. She often gets jealous. If you believe the dust she sprinkles on you will help you fly in the air.

Captain Hook - A pirate captain. His left hand was cut off by Peter, and now he has only a hook. He has been after Peter for a long time, and never tries to leave Neverland. He hates the crocodile who ate his left hand.

Lost Boys - Boys who lost their mothers and never age. They are friends with Peter and have lots of fun. There are six members in the group.

Aqua’s Story

"Aqua is chasing after Terra and Ven, but ends up meeting Peter and the Lost Boys and being taken on a treasure hunt with them."

“Tink is jealous of Aqua?”

Peter Pan: You don’t want us to let a girl into the group huh?

Peter Pan: He’s just a cheap pirate named Hook. You don’t have to bother with him.

Aqua: There seems to be a treasure near this mark.

Ven’s Story

"Ven, having met up with Peter and Tink, try to put a stop to Captain Hook’s evil plans. And because of that they find a mysterious crystal...?"

“Does it have something to do with Terra and Aqua as well?”

“Boys who innocently enjoy Peter Pan’s orders.”

Ven: Let’s go to Hook!

Ven: I think that’s something a friend of mine left behind. Would you mind giving it to me?

Captain Hook: If you want Tinkerbell back you’ll have to come to Mermaid Cove!

Peter Pan : Don’t you want pirate treasure?

Terra’s Story

"Terra is chasing after Xehanort, but the only clue he has is that he is interested in “Pure Hearts.” Because of this, does Terra come into conflict with Peter?"

“Is he trying to use Terra in an evil plot?”

Captain Hook: You’ll never get these guys!

Peter Pan: Light? What do you mean?

Terra: That will become a treasure.

“The Queen’s magic that sneaks into Snow White.”

"A world that is a first for the series, Dwarf Woodland. Terra follows after Xehanort, after being ordered by his Master to do so. And following him, Ven and Aqua both end up on this world."

"Ven and Aqua try to help the Seven Dwarfs in having Snow White’s life, but Terra is being used by the Queen to kill her. With the three of them entwined in this old story, will it end up differently than you’d think...?"

Snow White - A princess with skin as white as snow and beautiful black hair. One day when going out to pick flowers, the assassin her foster mother the Queen sent with her attempts to take her life. But he felt so bad for her, that he let her go away, into the forest.

Seven Dwarfs - They mine precious stones from a mine deep in the forest where they live. Because of Snow White’s beauty and ability at house work, they let her stay at their home. They are all named for their various personalities and habits, but they all share a dislike for washing their face and cleaning their room.

The Queen (Witch) - A Queen who is unhappy if she is not the most beautiful in the world. A magic mirror she has tells her that now Snow White is more beautiful than she, and so she plots to kill her. With magic she changes herself to a witch, and gives Snow White a poisoned apple.

The Magic Mirror - A mirror who only speaks the truth, and always answers correctly to the Queen’s questions. He tells her the truth about Snow White when the Queen thinks she has been killed by the assassin.

Ven’s Story

"Ven finds the scared princess in the woods and tries to cheer her up. Not knowing that the apple is posion, he picks it up and hands it to the princess. He also visits the dwarfs mine, but is mistaken for a jewel thief and you have to try and chase and catch the dwarfs."

“Catch the seven dwarfs who are running about!”

“Find the hidden dwarfs!”

“Seven strong knights who protect the princess?”

Ven: Please believe me, I’m not a thief!

Ven: A scared heart will show you illusions.

Witch: Oh, I’m so sorry.

Grumpy: You thief! We’ll never let you have our jewels.

Snow White: If their your friends, I’m sure that’s not true.

Grumpy?: We aren’t afraid of that old witch’s castle!

Terra’s Story

"Terra is still searching for Xehanort. The Queen promises him that she will let him use the mirror to find Xehanort’s whereabouts of he only does her a favor."

“The thing Terra is searching for...”

“What is Terra’s answer to the Queen’s proposal?”

Terra: Do you know anything about someone named Master Xehanort?

The Queen: I am not interested in easily changeable things like people’s hearts.

The Queen: Are you saying that I’m lying?

The Queen: If you just do me a favor, I’ll allow you to ask the whereabouts of Xehanort.

Aqua’s Story

"Snow White has eaten the apple, and is gone into an eternal sleep. Aqua decides to go to the Queen’s castle in place of the mourning dwarves. But Aqua winds up trapped in the magic mirror, and has to fight a man who is in the mirror. The man in the mirror can both disappear and separate his body, along with many other attacks!"

“Aqua’s fight in the mirror.”

“Not only can he split his body, but he has innumerable fireballs!”

Grumpy?: Snow White’s purity changed us.

It's just been an evening full of news, hasn't it? Lissar has finished translating another segment of the latest Famitsu. This time the article goes into more detail on the battle system. Take a look:

“Releasing three strong light powers”

A very strong multi-target attack called “Shoot Lock” for everyone that hits enemies that have been locked on. If the lock on number reaches MAX, you will be able to add onto your Command, which once completed will do a Finish attack. There will also be more in mutiplayer!

Terra - Star Burst

Multiple blasts of light fire from his keyblade to hit the enemies.
The input command is to continuously press O.
“Fly shining blasts of light!”
“Rapidly press the button to release the Finish command.”

Ven - Photon Charge

Rush to locked on enemies for multiple hits. If the lock on number reaches MAX, a pillar of light raises for a Finish attack. (The information for how to input it isn’t written, but according to last year’s movie you have to hit the O button once at the correct time.)
“Lock on to all enemies in the area.”
“A straight attack with the speed of light!”

Aqua - Rainbow Shower

Light in seven colors bursts from the keyblade and chases after enemies. Press O at the right time in the circle to imput the command.
“An attack with light in seven colors.”
“A spiralling light whirlwind, a rainbow attack, again!”

“Multiplayer using wireless LAN!”

You will be able to us wireless LAN to be able to play in multiplayer. A world made specifically for playing in multiplayer, “Mirage Arena” will have characters becoming armored warriors, and you’ll have lots of different things to explore.

It is not yet sure whether or not you will be able to use PS3 adhoc party to play.

You will be able to transfer things between multiplayer and single player. Items and any sort of character growth you’ve done to your character will be able to be brought over.

There will be a lot of saving friends who have been locked away, reviving fallen [things? people?] by continuously pressing O, and other cooperation type of things.

“You can access it by special kiosks!”
“Cooperate to grow your characters.”

Abilities we were able to confirm:

Ice Barrage (Aqua)

Provoke (multiplayer?)

Friend Cure (multiplayer)

Heal Light (multiplayer)

Vanish (multiplayer)

Single Player Report: “Play one battle with a character and be able to use a lot of different abilities!”

- In Aqua’s demo you get to see Snow White’s world.

- Though Aqua is a magical girl, she has quite a lot of keyblade attacks. “But she seems a little bit short ranged?”

- The command gauge fills up as you attack. You can style change several times in a single battle.

- The boss fight was the magic mirror. You get surrounded by several different versions of the man, but if you look you can see one smiling.

Multiplayer Report: “I think it’s great you can help each other.”

- There are rounds in the arena battles. And a mode where enemies keep coming until you finish them all off.

- You can get passed difficult areas by helping each other, but since there is a lot of places like that it can get quite exciting.

- You can heal yourself or a friend who is close by with “Friend Cure.” You can share who will be the attacker and healer.

- You can use the “Vanish” ability to make yourself disappear.

- After finishing you will receive medals on the result screen.

New Trailer Report!

Trailer Report “The latest trailer has a screen like a board game!”

- Terra and Aqua are taking the “Master Acknowledgement Test” (Ven is watching?) A new samurai-like character appears. Xehanort is also in sight.

- A board game screen appears. Cinderella throws dice. Might this have something to do with the new growth system?

- Aqua speaks with someone in white clothing. Two large men (who look just like two members of Organization XIII) are protecting the castle. (Even Dilan Eleaus?) [Sorry for spelling errors. I think she’s just wondering about who it might be.)

- Ven wears armor, and flies into space. He’s riding something like a keyblade...?

- At the keyblade graveyard Xehanort faces off with Terra, Aqua, and Ven. The word “Keyblade wars” comes up.

Could the new samurai-like character be the master of Terra, Aqua and Ven? It also appears like we've gotten our first glimpse at some Organization XIII somebodies.

Birth by Sleep Trailer Report (Detailed)

Hey everyone. Lissar has translated a much more detailed description of the new trailer from off of the Famitsu website. Enjoy.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

The new trailer starts out with a scene where Aqua, one of the three protagonists, is making a charm that looks like it’s made from a sarasa shell, and gives it to Terra and Ven. Then it shows a new character which looks very samurai-like. We see Terra and Ven taking a “Master Test”, are they taking a test to become Masters? Master Xehanort is there as a “guest”. We see a scene where he is telling something to Terra. At this point in time it seems that he is respected by everyone.

(image of Master Xehanort) This is the Master Xehanort we’ve seen before. He seems to be a be crazy here.

Now there is a montage of scenes, where we see what definitely looks like a board game. Cinderella throws some dice and we see it roll across the board. Nomura has mentioned before that “The growth system will be very strange, something like a minigame...” so perhaps this is it!? We see Vexen in a white coat with Xaldin and Lexaeus in guard type uniforms. These look like scenes from the Organization XIII member’s human lives.

In the SE booth there are also videos of multiplayer, as well as scenes from Neverland and Castle of Dreams.

(montage of various in game images) You can see playing multiplayer with three people. In Neverland, we can see differences from what we’ve seen in the series to date.

We also get to hear the voice of the masked Keyblade wielder that we’ve seen before with Master Xehanort. We also see Ven becoming armored and riding something that looks like the Keyblade from KHII FM “tamarishi shinen” [don’t know English name, if there is one.] and riding in space with Stitch. There were a lot of very surprising scenes. At the very end it shows the release date as January 2010.

Even though your companions are far away, you can still use their powers by using the Dimension Link system! Just by linking to them you will get more powerful, and be able to use unique Finish moves!

Finish moves will have two power up levels!!

Start the Dimension Link! The prize boxes left from defeated enemies will fill up your D-LINK gauge. Once the gauge is filled you will be able to activate the Dimension Link!!

Once you’ve activated it, the face of the companion you’ve linked to will show up on the bottom right of the screen!! On the first and second levels of Finish moves the face of your companion will change.

The first level Finish move: Reflect Beam [? guessing here] Collect the symbols that drop from defeated enemies while you’re in Dimension Link mode. When you have 0~1 symbols, you will shoot the beam.

Number of symbols: You can only collect up to two symbols that the enemies drop!!

The second level Finish move: Flower Beat
When you’ve collected two symbols, you’ll be able to perform a stronger Finish move. He’ll play the ukelele and attack enemies with sound waves!!

Es muss ja nicht umbedingt eine kommen

bis jetzt kam ja immer eine hmm ich besitze keinen ds naja ich will mir nen lite holen aber naja 150 euro man obwohl der dsi rausgekommen ist haben die den preis net m etwas gesenkt

ist ja einige zeit nichts mehr passiert also das game ist ja schon draussen und natürlich hab ich mir nen ds und das game geholt und habs durch also ich kann zu dem game sagen die story ist schön und traurig das gameplay ist gut aber finde das von kh1 oder 2 besser die kamerführung is bislang die beste die grafik ist im allg. für mich nicht top für ds verhältnisse glaub die beste der multiplayer modus is etwas entäuschend vorallem hat nomura erwähnt dass es nicht nur ein zusätzliches feature ist nur ich hab gestern mehrere stunden gespielt es sind dieselben missionen(ohne angehobenen schwierigkeitsgrad) was entäuschend ist doch die kronen die man da gewinnt und der konkurenzkampf mit den freunden macht schon spaß.

fazit: das game ist sehr schön es lohnt sich es allemal zu kaufen obwohl es für meine verheältnisse einfach noch etwas fehlt z.b wie kh2 so ein starker gegener wie sephiroth oder nen stärkerer endgegener.

New Scan Shows off Apprentice's Master, Land of Departure, Command Board

Today's scan, discovered by our own Lissar, contains a ton of new info.

It looks like the starting world in Birth by Sleep will be the "Land of Departure", think of it as the equivalent of Traverse Town or Twilight Town where the game's events begin. Terra, Aqua, and Ven's master is revealed, whom they train under. Their master, who also wields a very unique Keyblade, senses a grave danger in the world(s), and sends Terra, Aqua, and Ven off to go stop it.

Lastly, this scan reveals that to upgrade and strengthen their abilities in the game, players will undertake a board game mini game, in which the goal is to accumulate Board Points (BP) to upgrade their abilities. Characters from throughout the main game will also appear in this board game to aid the players in various ways. Special panels can be landed on that will "activate events".

FF-Reunion has uploaded scans of the latest issue of Famitsu magazine. They feature a closer look at Land of Depature, Enchanted Dominion, and the board-game-style leveling system. It also appears that the Master's official name is spelled 'Eraqus', and that Prince Phillip will join alongside the player in the Enchanted Dominion. Take a look:

According to FF Reunion, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep has been given a release date of January 9th, 2010 in Japan for 6,090 Yen (roughly $60 US)!

sehr nett die trailer verdammt ich will das game naja wer ma die berichte bei kh1 liest kennt sich schon aus mit den schülern ansems^^ naja jedenfalls hab ich mir die trailer auf gametrailer angesehen und das gameplay scheint vielversprechend zu sein genau wie die story also wenns am 9 januar dort erscheint denk ich erscheint es bei uns im mai

HQ Birth by Sleep Screens show off Enchanted Dominion, Prince Philip, Command Board

Famitsu has updated it's website with high quality screenshots from this week's scan of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. The screens feature a scene from Enchanted Dominion, with Terra talking to Maleficent, as well as battle screens of Aqua teaming up with Prince Philip to take down a dragon. The screens also show off the newest feature in Birth by Sleep - the command board system used to upgrade your character's abilities! New BBS Scans Featuring Land of Departure and Enchanted Dominion Info!

More BBS scans have found their way onto the internet. They feature very little new information, instead going over Enchanted Dominion and Land of Departure once again. There are still a few interesting tidbits, however. Check 'em out:

The truth behind these mysteries will soon be revealed!

Lots of new information about the story and system have been revealed by these new screenshots and illustrations. They’ve finally decided on a release date, so we’re closing in on finding out what is behind all these mysteries in this new game.

World Guide 1
-Land of Departure-

Our heroes’ long grim adventure starts from here.

The story starts in a new original world. Here is where the heroes train in hopes of becoming a Keyblade Master. The latest movie that was shown at TGS09 showed them taking the “Master Qualification Exam”. It was revealed that Master Xehanort watched them take the test, though we’ll have to wait and see how the story will unfold from there.

Master Xehanort [er... the scan cuts off about half of the words, but it’s essentially the same as before. I will guess:]

Master Xehanort is a powerful Keyblade Master, as well as an acquaintance of Master Eraqus. He looks very different from the Xehanort we have seen in previous games. Just who is he?

Master Xehanort is giving advice to someone. Had he been planning something at this time as well?

Vanitas

He is the only apprentice of Master Xehanort, and his name has only just been revealed. In the movie that was shown at TGS09 we were able to see him talking and hear his voice. Just what face is he hiding behind the mask?

He talks about the princesses of light! Where the princesses of light something that people sought after even in the past?

Our three heroes in training This is the world where they start out on. But perhaps the picture shown here is not from the very beginning of the game?

Let’s look take a look at some of the things in the story we’re wondering about!

It’s quite interesting that in this game that the important characters already seem to know each other. We get to see scenes of them all talking before the problems start, and these will be the key that connects the rest of the story together. The things Master Xehanort says also have quite a few connections to previous games in the series.

Point 1 Terra and Master Xehanort
It seems that Terra trusts Master Xehanort. We see that he obeys him, but it seems that in the end he betrays him!? What is Master Xehanort after?

Point 2 Ventus and Vanitas
Is it just a coincidence, or is there some connection? We see quite a few scenes with them together. Their names also sound similar. Just what is between the two of them!

Point 3 Aqua’s Good Luck Charm
Aqua gives them charms to make sure they’ll see each other again. The charms look just like the one that Kairi made in KH!

Point 4 The search begins
The three of them are ordered to go searching for Master Xehanort, but in this scene we don’t see Ventus anywhere. Where could he be?

Point 5 What is Ventus doing?
What is Master Eraqus and Aqua looking at? It almost seems as though Ventus is acting violent...

Their adventure begins here.

Though not all scenes are, most of these screenshots show the prologue to the story, in Land of Departure, where they start their journey. What exactly were Terra and Master Xehanort talking about? What is Ven doing? You’ll have to find out more in the game. Master Eraqus is Ven, Terra and Aqua’s master, and he will have a lot to do with the story. He is a new character for the series, so I’d like you to watch him closely. -----

Master Eraqus

He is a Keyblade Master with three apprentices. We don’t know much about him yet, but he seems like a calm and collected “samurai” type. The armor around his middle and his boots look similar to the other three. Perhaps he can change into armor as well? His keyblade design is rather interesting.

“Now we will be having the Master Qualification Exam.”

The Three Apprentices

Terra

A young man who is always calm and cool even under pressure. He fights with power, and can pack a lot of destruction into one attack.

Ventus

A boy who is curious and has a cheerful personality. He fights with speed, and uses light, quick actions.

Aqua

A serious young woman who both kind and strong. Her style is to fight with magic, so her attacks might be a bit erratic!?

System - Let’s look at two new things that have been revealed!

Command Levels - Important for growth of your commands!

Deck Commands, Action Commands, and Shoot Lock Commands all have levels. You can gain CP (Command Points) from defeated enemies which once you’ve gotten enough will raise the levels of your Commands. Levels will effect just how strong your Commands will become.

Set your Commands before battle
CP will be given to all Commands that you have set in your Deck. When your Commands level up it will tell you on the screen. You can also check their growth on the menu screen.

Support Abilities - Master your abilities to make them more powerful

Some Deck Commands will also have Support Abilities attached to them. When you set the Command you will gain the effect of the Support Ability, but if you unequip it you will lose the effect. But if you set the Command and get the ability to the highest level, your character will then have that ability mastered, and even if the Command is unequipped the effect of the Support Ability will remain.

Support Abilities will grow by gaining CP. Then you will be able to level them up.

Barrage - A Deck Command. You will draw close to the enemy and hit them with a rapid fire multi-hit attack. If you manage to press the buttons with good timing you gain extra hits.

Strike Raid - A Deck Command. You use the keyblade like a boomarang to attack your enemies. Sora has used the same attack before in the KH series.

Vanitas has his face hidden, so he is even more mysterious than other characters. There is a very important reason that his face is covered, but I can’t tell that yet. I will tell you that you won’t see it until the end of the story. I chose his name first through the meaning I wanted, then when I was looking up words this one also sounded similar to Ventus. So the reason I chose this name was because it felt like he was destined for it.

Birth by Sleep Not Coming to the PSP Go?

Today a demo event took place in Japan which focused on upcoming PlayStation titles, the biggest attractions being Final Fantasy XIII and of course, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Unfortunately for PSP Go owners, a rumor has surfaced that Birth by Sleep may not be available for download from the PlayStation Store.

Take a look at the pamphlet above. The reasoning for this rumor is the fact that PSP titles which are available in the PlayStation Store are supposed to have a PS Store icon next to the UMD icon. As you can see, only the UMD icon is present on the Birth by Sleep page.

There's also this Twitter post, from a fan who was attending the event, claiming that he was informed by staff working there that there would not be a downloadable version of Birth by Sleep, because Disney has not agreed to online sales of the game.

It's entirely possible that the rumor is false, and that there will be a downloadable version of the game, but if it is true, let's hope something gets worked out before the game is actually released.
