The first one was a estimation and about the second Value I should say at least 900 signs :P There are much more.
That's true. I guess there're around 9000 different signs. I forgot the exact number xD

More or less you are right. I wanted to say the younger a person the more information he/she can keep. In that case I share the opinion from my tutor.
I think we both meant the same thing but wrote it different.

I am curious. Please write more about it or give some samples.
It's not the first time I spoke about that, so I don't need to write more about that

@Nicoletta : A person would never be able to speak a foreign language better then their mother tongue/native language. A kid will easier and faster learn the basic of an unknown subject/language then a adult ever could.

Well, I can't agree with your first statement.
Of course you're right that it is easier for children to acquire a new language before they get in their critical age in which it becomes much more difficult. But I know adults that have learned their second language quite late, but are able to communicate in it almost perfectly, whilst they have lost the ability to express many things in their first language fluently.

I also think that a adult can learn a language fast, and it depends always on the person... i hate it, when people say "i can´t learn that, i am too old" - This way of thinking is bullshit, you only live once (yolo ) , so just try something and do not look on your age...
My grandmother has also learned to use a computer like surfing on some websites, or installing a cd - (but here she said to me once she read the whole terms of use of a software because she though its important xD ) ... i was really amazed about that

by the way, i think the thread here is a good way to improve my english skills, finally im in the intensive course for english, and next year i am in the qualification phase in high school...
the best way to improve english skills is to travel around, but unfortunately i do not have the possibility. The only few things i can do from here, is to watch series and movies in english, write in english like here, and to read books.

    Greeting, Pumpfnuckel.

Do his parents speak English at home? And does he?

I never talked English at home, my parents did though. And they still do. Others always considered us and our conversations as weird. "Where are you going?" - "In die Schule. Warum?" - "Just asking."

Nope! Everyone will surely get faster German if he knows latin.

And, you did not respect the difference between kids growind up bilingual and kids getting lessons in kindergartens!

Learning a language in a playful way takes a lot of time, it´s not enough to just have to hour lessons a week. A child who participates in kindergarten on English course, knows a few words after months orcan recite simple sentences such as "My name is Kevin." This is quite nice, but out of all proportion to the effort. The tiny advantage, of early foreign language courses will be away quickly when school begins. and, you have to keep in mind: For millions of migrants english for example would be the second foreign language... (Fremdspracherwerb: Nutzloser Frühstart | Gesellschaft | ZEIT ONLINE)

It´s a fairytale that very early lessons in a foreign language can help. We shoul better teach mathematics social studies instead of listening to long outdates theories.

You mean that somebody who already know latin will easier learn spanish, italian, portugues, france . That would be true because these are roman latin languages.

Yes, there is a great difference. In the familiar atmosphere of the family , the kids will learn more efficient then in kindergarten or primary school. It also depends on the abilities to teach from their parents.

I completely disagree. One example : The japanese kids starts to learn the basic of their language (hiragana and katakana signs) even before they go to school. And in conflict with your theorie they are able to use the signs when they come to school.

Other example : Before the kids go to school they are already able to communicate in their native language. They are able to follow the lessons on school in their native language.
I do not say that adults are not able to learn or keep information, but I am saying that children do have the better learning abilities.

Kindergartens are for to let kids express and experience theirselfs - not for teaching languages!

And that is what it is not true! Why don´t they learn dental surgery in kindergartens and schools? That waht is true is, the still have the curiosity. Thats what causes the difference in interests. I was always goog in chemistry, never good in biology; why? i was simply not interested in biology, although I had the ability to be better. Today, after decades of learning, I pretty don´t care about i.g. spanish, but I´m sure I could speak a understandable spanish after 6 months of class. Can a child do so?

The difference is that the japanese kids learn signs of their own language. Nicoletta talks about learning a foreign language, and I have to agree. My little sister learns English in the elementary school and is exactly on the skill level Nicoletta describes.
